Totally Tired of Too Many Tardies |
Hardin Intermediate School
Duncanville ISD
Our Data says it all, and we can’t wait to share it! In 2007–2008, before PBIS, came to town our staff was determined to reduce the number of referrals we wrote. We reduced by 10% the following year, but then PBIS came to town, and we have been ROCKin’ ever since! Students ROCK the hallways, they ROCK the cafeteria, they ROCK after school, and they ROCK at rest room break, graduating through eight levels of incentives: General Admission, Front Row Seat, Back Stage Pass, VIP Card, VIP All Access Card, Band Member, Lead Singer, and ROCK STAR! As of the end of February, after 2 ½ years we have reduced referrals by 25%—and counting! |

University High School
Waco ISD
University High School’s presentation will outline our implementation of the Safe and Civil School’s START on Time Program during the 2010–2011 school year. We will “walk through” the process of why we chose to implement a tardy program, why we chose this particular one, and how we put it in place. We include tardy count data, our tardy policy (and its revisions!), unanticipated “wins”, and our observations of how this tardy program benefits our campus. |

Inspired STEPS: Personal Leadership Teen Training
Strategies for Connecting with the iY Generation |
Waco High School
Waco ISD
The road we are on at Waco High School has taken twists and turns to get us where we are now. We will share and discuss the cost-effective strategies Waco High School has used over the last four years to implement and encourage PBIS initiatives. This includes how we use our campus data to determine initiatives and incentives. |
|
Today, more than any time in our history, different generations with broadly diverse outlooks are being asked to teach, learn and achieve together. The iY Generation, born in 1990 and beyond, has its own unique challenges, trends and realities that dictate the way they connect and learn best. This workshop will discuss 14 iY communication principles and provide specific experiential examples and/or strategies for each. Exercises from our Inspired STEPS Personal Leadership Teen Training experience, relevant to engagement, hope and achievement of iYers, will be shown. |

Wharton ISD is ROARing with PRIDE – Implementing PBIS District Wide (almost!) |
DeSoto West Middle School
DeSoto ISD |
|
East Wharton County Coop
Wharton ISD has never been a district to avoid challenges! Beginning in 2010–2011 school year, three of Wharton ISD's schools agreed to accept a huge challenge—one they believe will make lasting, positive changes in the lives of the students and staff. They agreed to collaborate with Region 3 and a district coach to implement school-wide PBIS in grades K-8. The district coach will share how PBIS was first introduced, campus buy-ins were secured, and teams were organized and trained. Each campus will present their own unique version of PBIS, from planning and implementing to evaluation of Year One successes and struggles and plans for Year Two.

Reach for the STARS – Overcoming Barriers to Implementation |
Rogers Elementary
San Antonio ISD
Both teachers and students need to be taught how to maintain behavior in the classroom. Students need to be taught how to behave and teachers need to practice how to become effective supervisors in order to change student's behavior. |

Rasco Middle School

Even when its evident improvements in school climate are needed, often it feels overwhelming. Barriers can seem insurmountable. Our presentation takes a systematic approach to overcoming common obstacles. Staff buy-in is often the first hurdle to overcome when attempting to create positive school culture. We share a fun way to show need for change and provide a team-building activity that builds momentum for kick-off. Collaboration is also essential so changes become school-wide and lasting. Time constraints are often another barrier that gets in the way of effective planning and makes it hard to achieve momentum.
Having passionate and dedicated core team members is paramount for success. However, creative scheduling of staff development is necessary for the majority of staff. It is critical staff fell time invested will produce benefits that are worthwhile. Certainly funding has never been so limited as now. Identifying low cost or free incentives for students and staff are key to maintaining continued efforts and necessary for long term implementation. School improvement takes dedication, support, and hard work. Obstacles will be present; however, overcoming barriers collaboratively actually is part of what makes the team stronger, the process more solid, and the school improvements effective. |
